BAN was founded in 2006 by Dan Caligor. Our purpose—then and now—is to provide advisory services and interim CXO-level staffing of the highest quality to early stage ventures. Since then we have worked on a number of ventures, typically over periods of several years each. Each BAN project team is assembled from our extensive network of specialized professionals, and is designed to fit the specific needs of that project.The BAN core team includes:
DAN CALIGOR
Dan’s approach to fostering success is informed by 20 years of alternating between management consulting and direct participation in start-ups. His consulting experience includes six years in the strategy practice of Booz-Allen & Hamilton (now Booz & Co.) serving telecom, media and high tech clients, as well as stints at BearingPoint doing operational strategy and at Alexander & Associates, doing market research and market analysis for media clients. Dan’s venture roles include employee # 1 at Viatel, a pioneering international call-back service provider; SVP at Global Wireless Holdings, which built wireless networks in emerging markets; founding COO of SoundStreak, “the internet recording studio,” and founding COO of EyeIC, which provides image analysis software to ophthalmologists and optometrists.Dan’s broad expertise includes: business strategy; strategic and tactical marketing; product definition and product management; funding strategy; organizational design; operational planning and implementation. His roles at ventures have included strategic planning, product responsibility, budgeting and financial forecasts, funding strategy, tactical marketing, and special projects ranging from FDA 510(K) submissions to designing management dash-boards.
Dan sits on the boards of SoundStreak and EyeIC, and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.
MATTHEW B. HENSRUD
Matthew began his career 8 years ago at Carnegie Hall, combining his production and design skills into servicing the full range of the Hall’s technical needs. From Java, to Flash, to modern web design with multiple frameworks, Matthew constantly increases his value as a consultant by keeping on top of the next big thing. While at Carnegie, Matthew designed ad campaigns for New York Times Digital, videos for Continental in-air promotions, motion graphic presentations, to wide-reaching design edits to carnegiehall.org (many of which can still be seen). Since leaving Carnegie Hall, Matthew has worked for a number of startups in a variety of roles. At RipRoad Inc, he project managed the successful launch of Chase Manhattan Bank’s Txt-2-win U.S. Open sweepstakes, which garnerned tens of thousands of participants in the summer of 2008. At SoundStreak, “the internet recording studio,” Matthew guided the commericial version of the software through an incredibly difficult product definition period, and deep into production. At EyeIC, Matthew produces many key documents for the application, helping guide the missing critical FDA submission process. As a current employee of EyeIC, he continues to assist in product development, management of the quality system, and ensuring the product is safe.Matthew fits well in many diverse tasks, and his wide technical expertise gives him invaluable insight into how business needs can be translated into technology.
